Friday Night Lights Return as Fayette County Football Teams Prepare for 2026 Season

FAYETTE COUNTY, PA — The countdown to high school football is underway across Fayette County.

Uniontown, Laurel Highlands, Albert Gallatin and Connellsville are among the local programs preparing for the 2026 season, bringing the return of Friday night football one step closer.

For communities throughout Fayette County, high school football represents more than a game.

It is a weekly gathering that brings together students, parents, grandparents, alumni, teachers, coaches and community supporters.

Season Openers

Albert Gallatin is scheduled to begin its regular season on August 28 against Burrell.

Laurel Highlands is scheduled to open September 4 against Derry.

Uniontown and the other county programs will also enter the season with their own schedules, expectations and storylines.

One matchup local fans will have circled on the calendar is scheduled for October 30, when Laurel Highlands hosts Uniontown.

More Than Football

The work required to put a football team on the field extends well beyond game night.

Players spend weeks preparing physically and mentally. Coaches develop strategies and systems. Athletic trainers work with athletes. Band members, cheerleaders, boosters and volunteers all play roles in creating the Friday-night experience.

For seniors, the upcoming season represents their final opportunity to wear their school colors.

For younger players, it represents another opportunity to develop and establish themselves.

And for communities, it represents another season of traditions.
