Uniontown fire crews responded to the Harris Garden Apartments Sunday after a tenant reported heavy smoke entering through ventilation shafts. Firefighters determined the source was burnt food left unattended on a stove, and confirmed no injuries to the adult occupant or a 2-month-old infant present in the unit.
UNIONTOWN, PA โ Uniontown fire crews and local emergency personnel were dispatched to the Harris Garden Apartments complex on Sunday following reports of an active structure fire inside a residential unit.
Initial 911 dispatch alerts indicated that a tenant reported heavy smoke entering an apartment through internal ventilation shafts. Emergency dispatchers noted that despite the presence of smoke, an occupant within the unit initially refused to evacuate the premises, where a 2-month-old infant was present.
Responding units from the Uniontown Fire Department arrived on scene within minutes and established command. Firefighters conducted an immediate exterior size-up, noting no visible flames or smoke breaching the exterior walls or roofline.
Upon entering the structure to investigate, crews located the source of the heavy smoke, determining it was caused by burnt food left unattended on a stove top. Firefighters ventilated the residence, monitored air quality levels, and confirmed that neither the infant nor the adult occupant sustained injuries.
